South Africa Bound

Well, I was never convinced that I'd ever try out this blogging world, but here I am giving it a chance. My motivation for creating this page is to keep in touch with you, my friends and family, while I am living in South Africa.
On September 8 I will be departing on my first international experience! As my CMU practicum, I will be volunteering in the city of Mthatha (spelled "Umtata" in most English literature) where I am planning on working in a small medical clinic within the community of Itipini (translated "the dump"). At this point much of what I'll be doing and where I'll be living is going to be a surprise to me, so I will wait unitl I arrive to provide you with details.
I'm not sure how often I'll have internet access, so that will determine whether or not I actually keep up this blog. In either case, you can most definately expect some emails from me along the way. Soon I send out my new phone number and mailing address to give you multiple communication options! As you may have gathered, one of my concerns about my 3 months away is missing everyone back home. You are all an important part of my life and it will be difficult to leave you behind. But I look forward to the adventures that are to come, and I ask for your prayers for safety as I travel, and the ability to adapt to my new surroundings and find my way in new cities and with new people. Your support means so much to me.
